Jorge Degas and Vini K.


This colourful duo is the result of a yearlong collaboration between the Danish jazzsinger Vini K. and the Brasilian born bassplayer Jorge Degas. They meet in a broad universe of music - without the sharp edges that normally exist between the two cultures. This is the starting point for music without prejudice - focusing on a new open jazzstyle with elements of Brasilian rhythms, jazz and fusion.
Vini K. was born and raised in Denmark. In 1988 she went to Brazil where she studied, recorded and toured with some of Brazil s finest musicians, Hermeto Pascoal and Paulo Moura a.o. After Brazil she resided in New York for three years, where she recieved a scolarship for one year from the "New School of Music". Among other things she has worked with the brazilian composer Hermeto Pascoal at "Blue Note" in New York and most recently with the "Danish Radio Big Band. She has toured in Scandinavia and at the "European Arts Festival" in Holland with her own quartet consisting of Thomas Clausen, Bob Moses and Jorge Degas. In 1992 she recieved the prize "Jazzmusician of the year" in Fyn, Denmark as the first woman ever. Over the past years she has performed in New York, Brazil and most of Europe. Jorge Degas and Vini K Jorge Degas was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since 1970 he has been working as a professional musician. As an autodidact, Jorge has worked his way up from humble beginnings in Brazil to become an interesting and acknowledged electric bass player.He played with artits like Al Di Meola, Bob Moses, Robertinho Silva, Paulo Moura, Martinho da Vila, Alceu Valenca and Gal Costa - in Brazil, Africa, South America and Europe. He has been at the "Montreux-festival" at "Free Jazz" and "Rock in Rio" in Rio de Janeiro, on big festivals in London, Paris, Copenhagen, Berlin, Nice, Nyon Cascais etc. In 1993 German TV went to Brazil to make a program about his life and music. He has composed music for films and TV and has 11CDs in his own name. Since 1987 he has been living in Denmark.
